De karaktereigenschappen van glas en spiegelglas, met name de transparantie, reflectie en het in dialoog gaan met hun omgeving heb ik benut in één van mijn werken.

Door een transparant rode, glanzende (waardoor ook reflecterende) plaat te plaatsen in een veranda-constructie, wordt de architecturale constructie -naast haar eigenlijke aanwezigheid- eveneens via haar reflecties en transparanties zichtbaar in de plexi-plaat.

Daar de plexi-plaat transparant rood is, nemen we de achterliggende architecturale delen rood waar. Door haar glans, de lichtinval en de soms gunstige achtergrond, verkrijgt de transparante plexi tegelijkertijd ook een spiegelende eigenschap. De spiegelende onderdelen zijn vaak groen van kleur daar de veranda zich in een groene omgeving bevindt. Zo merken we in één beeld zowel rode reflecties als groene transparanties op.

Bij dit werk is maar één tijdsmoment belangrijk en wordt er maar op één moment gewezen; niet het moment van de creatie, maar het moment wanneer de toeschouwer het werk gewaarwordt: het heden.  Ook toon ik via dit werk de plaats en de context waar het zich bevindt. Men wordt zich bewust van de eigenlijke tijd en ruimte waar men zich in bevindt. Het hier en nu worden slechts geaccentueerd, de waarneming ervan gemanipuleerd.

Een andere verschijning verwezenlijkt door dit materiaal, is dat er rode lichtvlekken op de grond ontstaan door het schijnen van de zon doorheen de rode plexi. Naargelang de zon zich verplaatst zullen zich verschillende beelden op de grond aftekenen. Deze steeds veranderlijke rode lichtverschijnselen gaan in dialoog met de vaste structuur van de veranda. Ook bij dit verschijnsel wordt niet alleen het gevangen licht zichtbaar, maar geheel de metalen constructie, haar omgeving en het fenomeen ‘tijd’.

The characteristics of glas and mirror -transparancy and reflection-, the dialogue between it and its surrounding context are strongly represented in this piece. By placing a red transparant (and reflecting) board in a porch-like construction(pavillion), the architectural construction becomes visual in the plexi-glass board.

Because of the board being transparant and red, the architecture behind it is viewed in red. Because of its reflecting tendecy it also shows the surrounding landscape that lies in front of it, as if mirrored. The elements shown in that ‘mirror’ often contain shades of green, because the pavillion is build in a green enviroment. Because of that, one image shows both green reflections and red transparancies.

In this piece only one moment in time is important; not the moment of creation, but the moment of exposition, the moment that it’s seen by the audience: the now. It accentuates that one space and that one time and manipulates the experience of the viewer.

The work also causes red light to appear on the floor behind it as well as shadow caused by the construction, if shined trough by the sun. Now, as the sun turns, the images on the floor will also change. These changing images, caused by light are in contrast with the solid structure of the pavillion. It does not only show the captured light, but also the metal construction, the surrounding enviroment and the phenomenom ‘time’.
