NED – ‘Floraliënhal’, Biënnale van België, festival van Belgische hedendaagse kunst, Gent, 2019

Een film bestaande uit foto’s van de dakconstructie van de Floraliënhal, wordt geprojecteerd op glas. In dit geval op een ronddraaiende glasplaat, een draaiende ‘laterna magica’ geplaatst in een hamsterkooi. Het licht- en schaduwspel hierdoor bekomen, accentueert de architecturale eigenschappen van de Floraliënhal, en geeft ons de impressie van zonlicht dat schijnt door een dakconstructie.

Dit alles wordt in de Floraliënhal te Gent geplaatst, een industriële setting met glazen dakconstructie opgebouwd met structuren en transparante delen (waar de beweging van het zonlicht voor schaduwtekeningen zorgt) vergelijkbaar met een hamsterkooi.

Een ruimte waar binnen / buiten speelt.

Zo wordt dit alles een soort schaal-vertaling van de ‘serre-achtige’ monumentale constructie waarin het werk staat tentoongesteld.

A stop motion-film of photographs of the roof construction of the ‘Floraliënhal’, is projected on glass. In this case on a rotating glass plate, a rotating ‘laterna magica’, placed in a hamster cage. Its resulting light and shadow play, accentuates the architectural features of the ‘Floraliënhal’, and gives us the impression of sunlight shining through a roof construction.

All this is placed in the ‘Floralienhal’ in Ghent, an industrial setting with a glass roof construction constructed with structures and transparent parts (where the movement of the sunlight makes ‘shadow drawings’) comparable to a hamster cage.

A space that plays indoors / outdoors.

All this this becomes a sort of scale translation of the ‘glasshouse-like’ monumental construction in which the work is presented.
